Accidents at the place of work halfed

March 3, 2014

In a recent extensive and informative interview by journalist Clinton Sammut for the Maltese daily newspaper In-Nazzjon Dr Mark Gauci, Chief Executive Officer for the Occupational Health and Safety Authority revealed that since the Authority was set-up eleven years ago accidents at the place of work  were reduced by half.  In 2001 accidents at the place of work amounted to 3,600 for every 100,000 workers. In 2012 this figure was reduced to 1,400 accidents for every 100,000 workers. These figures are very encouraging and a reflection of the efforts made by the OHSA, constituted bodies representing employers and trade unions representing workers.
